Up And About

Hello, I'm back again, sorry for the lack of updates the past few days.

Have been caught up with some stuff, plus the weather is so nice for sleeping in recently... yeah it has been raining almost non-stop the past few days so it's nice to take naps! :P

Anyway, here's what I've been up to the past few days.

Met up with a high school friend on sunday. We had lunch at this shop called Pasta Mania. The Creamy Chicken was delicious, but can't say much for the service there though. The waiter's face was pretty black for the most part, for unknown reasons. *shrugs*

We caught up with each other (my fren and I, not the waiter and I haha) and shopped too! It was Hari Raya Sales ma.. She managed to buy this super cute red pants (I want also..but only 1 left) while I bought a pair of short pants as the price was really worth-it and it's hard to find fitting pants due to my (lack of) height. aikz.

Anyway, guess what, because it was a sunday and raya holidays, I met quite a few of my high school friends in Gurney. It has been what...years? since I last met them. One group didn't recognize me when I waved at them, until we went to talk to them. haha. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was kinda awkward as both parties didn't know what to say. No one to blame but myself as I'm rather poor in this keeping in contact business. And the select few that I did try to keep in touch didn't seem really interested. silly of me.

But I think I shall try my best with the many friends I've made in university. Somehow, the feeling is more mutual. After all the ups and downs we had gone thru in this 2.5 years, I think I can safely say all of us treasure this friendship a lot. Cherish them I shall. =)

Okay I got digressed. I was supposed to be going briefly thru what I had done the past few days. Not reminiscing abt good ol' days. haha.

On monday, I went to IDP to get my visa application done. Costed rm150 but I guess it's safer than risking rm1200 to do it myself then get it rejected due to miniscule reasons. yes it cost tat much just to apply for an australian visa ohmygawd! The expenses are rising so sky high...

Yesterday I went to get my medical checkup done. Besides the whole package of a chest x-ray plus medical examination (which costed rm180 mind you!), I had an extra lumbar-spine xray done too. Just wanted to check if there's any cause to the back pain I occasionally suffer from. Luckily the dr said everything was normal. phiew, I guess it's due to bad posture then :P

And lemme tell you, the whole process of getting those xrays, urine test etc really made me think again. So this is what a patient has to go through plus the worrying fact of their presenting complaint.

It wasn't fun at all. The process of getting those xrays were - how shld I put it - exposingly humiliating. in the literal sense. I think you get what I mean right.. And it is rather uncomfortable to remain in those positions for too long. So this is how it is like to take those xrays that doctors seemed to take for granted for.

But I do have a bone of contention. When the dr was ready to do the medical examination on me, I was all ready to smile and say "good morning" but he neither said "hello" nor "good morning" and straight away started. Granted, he did tell me what he was gonna do before doing it and was quite professional too but the whole thing was rather too cold and stiff for my liking.

I dunno, but in medical school, we are taught the minimal thing we shld ever do is greet the patient. Isn't that like basic courtesy? I wonder.

I tell myself that next time I will try to be a better doctor and put patients at ease by being a tad more friendlier. Coz normally patients are a bit fearful inside when they see a doctor. I hope I will still remember this a few years down the road. And that the journey hasn't turn me cynical then. yeah..

Anyway, so glad that most of the things have been done. Now just hvta wait for the visa to be approved then continue to wait for news about accomodation. yatta!

Oh ya before sunday, I managed to strike a few things off my list of things to read up on. But the past 3 days, progress has been slow. Maybe my procastinating disease is coming back again! Blame it on the sleep-inducing weather! :P

Well that's about all. I think all that sleep is making my day and night topsy-tupsy haha..

PS:
Finished reading The Jane Austen Book Club last week. Lots of flashbacks on the the individuals' life stories which were interesting to read about. Many little surprises popping up now and then. which gives insight on why the people are acting the way they are now. She has a different way of writing which I find it a refreshing change. a good book to read but not in a startling way.

PPS: I have a few good books lined up for my reading pleasure. Will slowly enjoy them in the rest of these holidays :) Currently I am reading PS I Love You which is turning out to be a touching read. I like the way she described those little memories the couple used to have together. I think anyone who has been in a relationship before would be able to relate to those tiny little things that seem unimportant to the outsider but actually matters a lot.

PPPS: Happy Hari Raya to my readers, by the way!

Mamma Mia, Here I Go Again

Read this for a synopsis of the movie.

There might be minor spoilers in this post so read only if you don't mind knowing beforehand la..

Thanks to Nuffnang, a friend and I got to watch Mamma Mia! the movie for free last night!

And I must say, I love it!! <3

People who know me well would know I love musicals but I like this one especially because it was so full of happiness!

They dance, they sing (yes I know that's what they are supposed to do in a musical) but they just seemed so happy being so wacky. They make me wish I will be as young at heart as them when I'm their age.

I guess sometimes it's okay to do crazy things once in a while. =) I think I'd learnt to be more unrestrained in the past 2 years.

Donna and her friends dancing to A*Teens' "Dancing Queen"

with weird combinations of clothing on them - ain't it funny?

The uncle sitting beside me was unabashedly singing away to most of the songs. He must be a pretty big fan coz he knew most of the words and didn't care that people were looking at him weirdly haha... Guess he's another one that is young at heart as well.

Amanda Seyfield who plays Sophie and Meryl Streep who plays Donna both did a great job, their on-screen persona were just too irresistably bubbly and cute! hehe..

these are the 3 potential fathers of Sophie

she thought she would be able to know which is her dad by looking at them..but things are never that simple

And yes, the guy in the middle is Pierce Brosnan (of Bond, James Bond fame) lol.

This is Donna and the Dynamos, her old band

omg the costumes and songs were so old-school that I couldn't help cringing lol!

how they burst into song suddenly - I love their spontaneity! I want to be like that too!

oh ya, look at the woman behind Donna wearing a bra on the outside, rotfl!!

I wasn't an ABBA fan before this but this movie has converted me~ I love all their songs.. They make me feel like singing and dancing!

*sings "Honey Honey, how he thrills me" coughs - okay i think I'll stop singing now*

omg the dance floor is just so colourful! I likey~

The decorations in the movie were lovely too. I especially love how they string this line of tiny lights all along the path up the hill to the church. So beautiful! and the little candles in white bottles strewn above the criss-crossing bars overhead for the dinner party for the wedding. omigosh.. you just have to see it to know what i mean!

My favourite part of this movie is the energy exuded by the cast! Their laughter and happiness is so infective!

I dunno, maybe I've been trying too hard to not mope around like a wilted flower these days - that this sort of movie is just the thing to raise my spirits. I felt so deliriously happy after the movie. ^v^ yet again something I'd not felt for a long time.

Anyway, I highly recommend this movie to everyone who just wants simple good happy fun!

*sings and dances around like a mad woman to the mamma mia songs lol*

The Best of Anime

I was introduced to the genre of anime a few years ago by a friend. After that, I never looked back. I was hooked!

The first anime I watched was Full Metal Alchemist. And boy was it good.

Edward and his little brother, Alphonse

Here's a little background. When they were young, their mother died, so they decided to try to revive her using the forbidden Human Transmutation.

However, the transmutation went awry and Edward lost his leg while Alphonse almost lost his soul. In a desperate attempt, Edward sacrified his left hand and managed to attach Alphonse's soul to the body of armour.

After that, Edward was fitted with automail (smtg like advanced prosthetic limbs) and he sets out to become a State Alchemist as that would allow him to have more resources for them to find a way to restore their own bodies. However, not all is sweet as the position also makes him a weapon of the notorious military. The full plot can be found here.

This anime is great because not only it challenges the imagination, it doesn't sugar coats the truth but includes elements of darkness as well. And the relationship between both brothers are rather touching. Highly recommended.

Next up, I was introduced to Naruto.

Naruto Shippuden - 3 years later after the first season ends

Set in a ninja village, Naruto is first shown as a naughty but determined little boy who wants to make everyone acknowledge him. This is because he has grown up as an outcast as the villagers shunned him because 12 years ago, a demon fox that nearly destroyed the village was sealed in him when he was a baby.

He gradually gains the acceptance of the people around him by working hard. He aims to be the next Hokage (village leader) and is full of determination to succeed.

The anime goes on to show him how he overcame obstacles, learn new cooler techniques and battle stronger enemies. A more detailed plot here.

However, of all the protaganists, I think my least favourite is Naruto coz he is kinda dumb at times compared to the others. For me, I watch this anime for the cool innovative techniques. And how the ninjas use their brains to outwit each other. Sometimes, one can't help but be awed by their amazing fighting scenes!

Recommended for those who like shows with less dark themes (except that you need some patience coz some parts are kinda draggy - coz the animator needs to wait for the manga to come out - sigh fillers!)

Next, I started watching Bleach after my friends told me it's nice.

Ichigo and his friends

The anime starts with Rukia, a soul reaper appearing in front of Ichigo and he is surprised that he is able to see her. A soul reaper is responsible for sending souls to the afterlife and killing souls who had turned bad (called "Hollows").

A Hollow appeared at that moment and injured Rukia severely. Ichigo tried to protect her even though he is powerless. Desperate, Rukia transferred her powers to Ichigo so that he can battle the Hollow on an equal footing. And Ichigo succeeded in vanquishing the Hollow.

However, Rukia tells him that he must take up her job as a soul reaper for now till her powers return to her.

And the anime goes on to show how although the cynic in him knows he can't save everyone, he tries his best to protect at least those close to him. A brief synopsis available here.

This is also another anime where there are amazing techniques shown omg. Great fighting scenes definitely to awe you. And some of the characters are so cool! hehe. Highly recommended!

Right. Next up is the anime called NANA.

Two girls with the same name, same age, going to the same place on the same train...

Although both share the same name, they are total polar opposites in character. They met by chance on a train headed to Tokyo. Little did they know, their paths will cross again when they eventually become housemates.

The cool gothic-looking Nana wants to go pro as a vocalist and is determined to succeed with her band Blast. However, deep inside her heart, she longs for her old lover Ren. The other sweet-looking Nana is friendly and outgoing but is weak in character and struggles with her love life and career.

Of all the animes here, this is the only anime not about physical fighting. But it is the one that touches my heart the most. I can't believe how much I cried when watching this. *shy*

The characters and their relationship with each other are very well-developed and the words the author chose to use are sooo beautiful that I could empathize very well with how they feel. And the topics touched upon are very real and complex, just like those in real life.. Just plain beautiful!

Synopsis here. Even my friend who didn't like anime was addicted to it after I bribed her to watch one episode. hoho see~ that is the power of this anime!

Highly recommended!! (especially for those who are into feelings and love stories hehe).

Alright! Next up is the anime titled D.Grayman which was introduced to me by a friend when I claimed I was out of nice animes to watch! And this turned out great.

Allen Walker with his mortal enemy, the Earl Millenium behind

The protaganist is 15 year old Allen, who was abandoned by his parents after he was born due to his "deformed" left arm. He was later adopted by Mana Walker. Sadly Mana died some time later.

Grieved, Allen tries to revives Mana by turning him into an akuma as the Earl Millenium persuades him. (Akuma are demons summoned by their loved ones who will kill the person who summoned them and use their body to obey the orders of the Earl) It is at this moment, Allen's left arm, which is an anti-akuma weapon activated and killed the akuma.

After that, using the ages old anti-akuma weapon called Innocence, he became an Exorcist with many others to continue fighting for mankind and stops the Earl's plans to destroy earth. Read more abt the plot here.

Personally, of all the fighting-based animes, Allen is my favourite protaganist because he is real. He is strong when it is needed but sometimes he struggles too. He doesn't give up easily but is neither rash nor unreasonable.

Due to the nature of this anime, it explores a lot about the sadness of some tragic stories. And the comradeship felt between the Exorcists is a resounding theme too. Although it includes dark elements, but there are funny light moments here and there. Highly recommended!

Last but least, the anime I am going to talk about is called Fate/Stay Night.

where Servants and Masters battle it out for the Holy Grail

Shiro, the protaganist of this anime is a relatively normal boy when suddenly one day, he is dragged into the war waged every 60 yrs to get the Holy Grail, which is said to be able to grant any wish.

The battle is between 7 Masters and their Servants. (Servants are warriors from the past summoned to do their Masters' bidding and are exceptionally strong) Most of the Masters are skilled in magic too.

The prize being the Holy Grail, the Masters do not joke around and are willing to battle till the death or kill other innocents just to strengthen their own power. Shirou being a helpful and honest teenager, is at first confused and irrationally shields people from battle, prefering to sacrifice himself to protect others. However, later this changes. Plot can be found here.

I am still halfway thru watching this anime (the downloads are so slow ma! haih) so can't fully comment on it yet. But so far, the anime is pretty entertaining. Though at times I can't stand how unsensible Shirou is.

The various type of Servants are so cool! And the way they fight! And some of the Masters are so mysterious.. and magic! A recommended watch.

Alright. That wraps up some of the most favourite anime that I've ever watched. All are really worth your time watching! Hontoni~

I hope you guys will enjoy them too and do tell me what you think of them if you have already watched any one of them. Toodles! ^v^

Mamma Mia! The Movie

I'm sure most of the people in my "strawberry" generation has heard of the phrase Mamma Mia and maybe even the song by ABBA.

But do you know what it actually means?

Apparently, Mamma Mia = "My Mother" in italian. And it is used as an expression of frustration or surprise. As you can see in the classic line of "Mamma mia, here we go again..." lol.

Mamma Mia started as a broadway production in 1999 and till now, at least 30 million people has seen it!

And for those who did not have the chance to see the broadway musical, it is now coming to you in big screen cinemas worldwide!

oh my mother! :P

Telling the story of a girl who is getting married and dreams of having her father walk her down the aisle, but the big problem is - she doesn't know who her father is!

Therefore, she somehow gets her hands on her mother's diary and found out there are 3 men who could have been her father... and guess what she does? She invites 3 of them to the wedding - without telling her mother!!

She thought she would be able to tell which is her real father just by spending time with them.. but apparently it's not as easy as she thinks!

I am eager to find out what happens after that (and I love love musicals!!) so Nuffnang.. can I have the tickets? Pretty please? Thanks!! ^v^

Btw here's the trailer for whoever who's interested.

With an all star cast of Meryl Streep (the evil boss in Devil Wears Prada), Amanda Seyfried (the dumb plastic girl in Means Girls), Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth etc.

To Be Amused

Sad to say, the political scene in our country can be likened to that of a circus scene, coz it provides us with no end of amusement.

Everyday when I open up to read the news, sometimes I really dunno whether to laugh to cry at the antics mentioned.

With the Permatang Pauh by-election being tmr, everything is cooked to a head in the past few days. It seems like every act is politically motivated nowadays.

So let's see who will win tmr. Another round of entertainment for the idle mind.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, when moi is not being amused by local politics, guess what do I do to fill the time?

Recently, I have been playing a lot of these 2 new RPG games in Facebook.

Elven Blood - from the elf's perspective

Considered pretty fun for a game consisting of solely of clicking here and there. As you need to plan your strategy and tactics. How to use your life and stamina properly etc. And some luck of coz. =)

Wanna try it out? Here's the link.

The other game is also similar in concept but from a different angle.

Blood Lust - from the vampire's perspective

Slightly darker in nature, this game offers another world of fantasy to gamers. hehe. And here's the link for Blood Lust.

Do try them out. Enjoy!

PS: this review is done for fun coz I'm nice like that :P no $$ involved. I wish there was though cz I need $$!

Of Books And Movies

As I am out of things to do, here comes a post where I shall recommend a few books and movies for your reading/viewing pleasure.

I must warn you first. The books aren't the most intellectual sort. They are fun to read! haha.

Okay, first up is this book titled A Tale Of Time City by Diana Wynne Jones.

Yes, you can only find this book in the children's section.

Or maybe teenagers' section. oops pardon my childishness.

Anyway, I remember starting to read all of Diana's books during my high school years.

I admit, her books might a bit too youngish for me now. But it's not the way she writes that intrigues me. It's the plot! The plots in her books has always been amazing, the way everything falls in place when everything is revealed.

So I am rereading it (as it was quite long ago) for the plot. And for lack of things to do.

Next up is this new book I bought a few days ago and managed to finish in 1 day! that says something, doesnt it?

It's titled Hex and The Single Girl by Valerie Frankel.

Hex = magic!

Yes, this is a book abt a good witch who uses her powers to help single women find the man of their dreams.

Chick lit alert? Definitely.

Recommended by Meg Cabot, this book is funny, sexy and intriguing at the same time. I said sexy coz there are a few steamy scenes inside, but no worries, it doesn't go overboard! Read btw the lines. *winks*

Haha okay this book is more my age, huh? :P

---------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, the movies I am gonna recommend are definitely the more intellectual artistic type. Guaranteed to give you food for thought!

First up is Atonement (Keira Knightly & James McAvoy) and the director is the one who directed Pride & Prejudice! That was another great movie too btw!

how a dangerous lie led to a girl spending her life trying to atone for it

Based on Ian McEwan's novel, this highly anticipated movie did not disappoint. Although I did not read the novel, I really loved the way this movie was filmed.

It was done really artistically. Even the music was cool. I love the one where they used the sound of typewritting to give it a hurried edgy feel.

Little clues are left all along the film, one must be rather observant to piece it all together in the end. I rewatched it twice! I'd love to watch it again but alas, a few months ago, my hard disk crashed and I don't have it anymore.

Oh ya, for those prudes out there, this movie contain some steamy scenes too. But hey, sometimes one gotta step out to challenge one's morals abit too, right?

Anyway, I label this a MUST-WATCH!

Right, next movie up is Juno, another movie that will again challenge you to think out of the box.

the movie that will give you a refreshing perspective of teenage pregnancy

I first came to know of this movie through k0k's blog. Intrigued, I went to download this movie and watched it just some time before my eos5. hey I can't study 24/7 right?

And I must say, this movie really opened my eyes to another genre of films. Quirky, with witty dialogue and a different sort of background music, I really love it! And the acting by Ellen Page is excellent, funny and most importantly - believable.

I also label this a MUST-WATCH if you want a different sort of comedy, a comedy that tells a story.

Well, that's all for now. Hope you guys will enjoy the movies at least. haha.

I have a few movies in my laptop. And the one I look forward most to watching is The Other Boleyn Girl. I guess I'm really into those old time sort of movies, huh? If you guys know of any different sort of movies/books which intrigue the mind and stimulate the senses (no, not in that way!), pls recommend to me okay?

Guess I shld keep that brain from becoming totally cobwebby. lol.

Post MSK

MSK is over! And now we're officially into the 2nd day of Nervous System (NS).

As usual, let's have some review on the exam before we move on okay.

I hvta say, it wasn't easy. The Qs were pretty tricky and a lot of physio came out! omg that is outrageous if you looked at the ratio of our anatomy : physio lectures. The anatomy that came out was do-able but quite a few needed some thinking and application skills instead of just plain memorizing and naming. Oh well, we are sem 5 and the most senior batch here after all. Time to gear up for the crazy clinical years! o.O

Anyhow, I think I did okay and thank goodness, for once, I made rather few silly mistakes. Don't get me wrong, I did made quite a few mistakes but I didn't know how to answer them anyway so I didn't mind too much. Last time, it was always the marks that I lost thru silly mistakes that tore me up inside.

Oh well, I blew that whole Q on the knee joint anyway. Didn't know what to put except naming the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. =/

I dunno whether it's the hard work I put in this time finally showed some results or I was just plain lucky this time. But anyhow, that just means I must work harder coz NS is apparently even more crazily difficult *gasp* and eos5 is just truttling along the corner *omgwtfbbq!!*

Btw this time the timetable is even more screwed up. We hvta wake up early FOUR days out of the 5 day week!! And early as in hvta arrive around 8-8:30am. shyt. I sense more zombie days coming along. And either csu or lectures are in the afternoon/evening. thank you for the "perfect" arrangement.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Enough ranting. Time to talk abt post exam celebrations! Omg I was really looking forward to this one. Was gonna die of bukitjalilitis. lol.

Anyway, we went to Sunway looking for dinner. And after much hesitation (and everywhere was full), we ended up in Subway. It was my first time there and the food isn't too bad. Quite healthy and I like it. Unfortunately the price was quite "healthy" too. Love the parmesan oregano bread! And the choc chip cookie is nice too!

We then watched Three Kingdoms as a midnight movie because all the earlier tickets were sold out. And I hvta say this: the movie was really really good!

*spoilers commence*

The scenes were artistically filmed and it's about the lifestory of Zao Zi Long. A hero who led his home country to countless victories and was unbeatable till his last battle. On the overall, the movie gave me this semangat membara sort of feeling, ya know? The sort where you wonder if you'd been born a few hundered years ago in china, this is what you hvta go thru.. And that our ancestors had in the same way as us, worked hard for their goals, battle it out till there is no breath left in them.

And Andy Lau is such a compelling actor, he was moved to tears many times in the movie. Gosh. I can feel his emotions! Btw I think Maggie Q looked scary in the movie - looked like a bad case of make up plus exhaustion I guess. *shrug* This movie has taught me how little I know abt the history of ancient china. Must read up more! I used to read quite abit in those english/chinese comic books my dad bought. But I guess I have forgotten alot of them.. sad.

I'd say this movie is really worth watching, provided you understand chinese as I heard my frenz say the subtitles sucked big time. But the chinese they were uttering is so beautiful and moving!

*spoilers end*

Oh ya, me and the bf went shopping for some ball stuff on sunday. Me for some accessories and he for his attire. Had fun helping him pick out his clothes! hehe.

Lazy to write more. Suffice to say we did get quite a bit of stuff =P I guess that's all for now. I managed to type a decent post on the library's computer once! yay. Time to facebook a bit before going for class. yes -_- the 4.15 class. tataz!

One Year

365 days.

8760 hours.

525,600 minutes.

31,536,000 seconds.

It all boils down to the same thing. We have finally come so far as to reach the one year mark. Sometimes when I think abt it, I still can't believe it.

[btw this post is super duper delayed becoz I was lazy so you will never know when is our anniversary! hehe]

One Year Anniversary. Even the words taste sweet in my mouth. =)

I still rmb the day when we offically became an item. Wasn't it funny how embarassed we were when our frenz saw us holding hands? That scene is deeply imprinted in my short-term-memory brain, so I shall declare it a feat indeed!

I could go on and on but oops I really shouldn't be mushy in my blog. That will certainly put off many of my readers. *shields eyes with hand and looks around* I can see some of them puking in the wastebin now.

Actually I'm just looking for an excuse to get off the hook. Coz however unrestrained I may blog abt some of my thoughts, there are still some things I prefer to keep private okay. huhu..

Anyway, I shall blog abt how we spent that memorable day then. As I am afraid one day my memory will really fail me, so I'll have some sort of journal for me to remember the past! Besides, it's fun to read back ur own old entries, right? It's like seeing youself slowly grow up then old and become more mature to the person you are today.

Digressed. Here we go.

We had something like a 2-day celebration as there wasn't enough time to do all the things we wanted to do in one night. So it started with us watching a movie the night before. oops I suddenly can't remember what movie that we watched. >.<

On the day itself, it was ngam ngam a public holiday [nah a hint for you! hehe] so we went to Sunway Pyramid for a nice dinner.

But before dinner, we decided to splurge on some yummy Baskin Robbin's ice cream first! yay~

Flavours are Straberry Cheesecake and Pralines & Cream

Omg, any flavours with cheesecake in it is my favourite haha! The caramel in the pralines & cream is not too bad too. Looks like I really have a sweet tooth! :P We wanted to have more flavours but the person serving us was in this super dark mood and had already scooped it full of two flavours. So we decided to leave it at that.

In the end, even tho the ice cream was superbly delicious and we did managed to finish it, we were of the same opinion that the quart sized tub was not for suitable two people that were gonna have a good dinner soon. lol. And even 2 wonderful flavours can get a bit cloying after a while. >.<

Next time we shall take the pint sized tub okay! Sadly, February doesn't have 31st, hvta wait till March ade.. *boohoo*

We walked around the shopping mall for some time, trying to expend more calories so that we'll have space in our tummies for our dinner.

Which leads me to the fact that the bf was so nice to had made a reservation at TGIF. Coz it was packed to the brim when we're there. [I did mention it was a public holiday ma..]

nice slogan on the napkin

I'll certainly agree to the "fun" part

I dunno whether it's because they had just opened but the workers there are mightily enthusiatic abt their job! They were singing, joking and wishing customers hello/goodbye all the time!

I had to admit, their smiles were certainly infectious. I couldn't help smiling while watching them. There was this guy at the bar that was trying to juggle cutlery too. Damn farny. He was also the same guy leading the rest into the cheering sort of songs.

The service was fabulous too. Very attentive but not over-intruding into people's privacy. *thumbs up*

Anyway, the food was here after a reasonable wait, where we were kept adequately entertained then.

First up is appetizer.

not too bad, certainly thick and full of mushrooms

But I won't say I super like it coz I think we unfortunately got the bottom part of the pot so the soup was a tad too thick. But on the overall, not too bad. Can't rmb the price except for the fact it was rather pricey due to the fact they had hiked up the prices on that very day! aikz.

I had heard that one meal they served in TGIF is enough to feed two. So we of coz decided to order one set only.

This is what we decided, after running thru all the choices.

very nice! one of their specials

The breast meat was really succulent, so juicy when we bite thru them. And tinged with some sweetness as it was cooked with slices of pineapple. The mashed baked potato was rather delicious too!

Hated the gree vege tho, coz it reminds of the time when I ate the very same vege in my high school and I found a dead white worm! yikes.

Imho, this set was rather expensive for the portion given. Abt RM 30 smtg I think. It was lucky that we had stuffed ourselves silly with ice cream earlier or I don't think this would have been enough for two of us. And it was a pity the portion was small because it was really delicious. sad~

Maybe we will go back some other time, when the prices are cheaper. =/ I heard there's this promotion set that includes appetizer, main meal plus dessert at a reasonable price? And that this set is enough for two? Anyone who knows abt this please let me know ya. kthxbai.

So that was how we spent our special day. Nothing really fancy, but the meaningfullness of that day remain in our hearts. <3

Here's to a year full of happiness, memories, occasional tears and most importantly, love. =) I love you, dear dear. ^v^ Let's hope there will be many more years to come ya? *hugs*

Gifts? That shall be left to another post! It certainly deserve one of its own! Highly anticipate it alright! Ciaoz!

Of Anime And Rotations

Oh I know I know *waves hand* I have been neglecting my poor blog for the past week! Out of a laziness to blog and I just had better things to do. bleh.

Most of my free time this week was spent on finishing my addiction to this anime called NANA. yeah I'm kinda out-dated right, it was so popular eons ago... And they have even made it into a movie!

looking cool

Anyway, the anime is really very superlicious nice! It definitely pulled on my heart strings! (yalah lacrimal glands working overtime ade T_T)

So for those who haven't watched it yet, pls pls do give it a try! Can be found at the anime index at crunchyroll.

It's about a story of 2 very different girls called Nana meeting coincidentally, becoming friends and their trials and tribulations while they struggle with love, ambitions and friendship. omg so touching ya know!! I finished season 1 consisting of 47 episodes in less than a week leh! Madness for me lol.

introducing the characters

Hmm when is the anime for season 2 coming out? Anyone knows?? I know they say that they wanna wait till the manga gets well ahead only they'll animate it - to avoid fillers. (yes I've been doing some homework) But it was quite a long time ago so when is it coming out? *wails*

Okay, you must try ah, after I specifically recommend! >.<

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since I've been lazy with my blog this week, I shall just give a brief update on how uneventful the 1st week of rotations was.

Monday: Community medicine. Can't help but admit that the lectures were pretty boring. After the so much more interesting literature selctive, com med which discusses similar issues to a certain extent seemed drone and dull. Can be summarized by snore snore snore.

Tuesday: Presentation for com med. It was really a hard task for me to help beautify and add more content to our powerpoint presentation. Cause my group's topic was about code of professional conduct and the laws associated with it!! So boring, right?

I never could understand the language of laws.. isnt it kinda like beating around the bush? Guess that is to prevent loopholes, but still... *raises eyebrows* Anway, luckily I did managed to make it more interesting by adding pictures/comics and arranging it in a simple manner so... yeap! *phiew*

Wednesday: Lab sessions plus clinical case studies = ultimate stress! Couldn't remember much with this leaky brain of mine. Gotta plug up the holes soon!! lol. Seemed to have totally forgotten my endo, repro and renal leh.. as usual. -_-

Thursday: CSU. Breast examination plus endo short history taking. Breast examination (on models of coz!) was quite interesting. Learnt a lot. But the plastic models were kinda hard to palpate tho. Ppl tend to apply too much pressure to keep the fingers from slipping off haha. Endo short history taking was okay, altho some cases hard to reach the diagnosis. But not too bad for this leaky brain.

Friday: Behavourial Sciences. We got to learn on how to break bad news to a patient. Which I must say, is one of the hardest things a doctor has gotta do. Everyone got a turn in our group and I must say, it wasn't that easy.

Normal 5 stages of reactions to bad news: Denial, Anger, Sadness, Negotiation, Acceptance.

I got this old lady as my SP and boy, she was good! I could almost believe that she was a real patient! I had to tell her that due to infection of her 2 toes (she had uncontrolled diabetes), there was nothing left to do but amputate them. Naturally, they added in a lot of social scenarios to make it harder for the patient to accept - like lack of financial support, has school going children etc.

My SP was in a lot of denial at first, didn't really go thru anger stage but was pretty sad about it. Later, she negotiated on other ways to go about it. In the end, I managed to get her to half accept it and ask her to go back and think abt it then come back the next day with her husband.

talk about being descriptive!

Guess I did okay for a first timer. *sigh of relief* But then I believe we can only learn theoretically with SPs but we only really learn when it comes to breaking real bad news. Let's hope I can do a good job then!

Well, that's all folks. What an uneventful week, isn't it? Next week I'm going Gombak hospital for 3 days. Can see the natives apparently! *eyes big big*

So yeah probably will neglect my poor blog again. Unless something cool crops up that I feel I must blog about it lah hehe. Okay ciaoz for now! ^v^

medical students probably can relate to this lol

Definitely D'lish!

I was sorely tempted to try out this new deli in midvalley called D'lish when pinkpau and michelleg reviewed it on their blogs sometime ago.

And I had the very chance to do so a few weeks ago (sorry this post a bit backdated blek)

I was kinda full after dinner that day - besides the 50% offer starts after 9pm so I cudn't very well be delaying my dinner till after 9 right? - so I decided to tapau-ed some of the awesome cupcakes they had on sale!

[here are some pics. they are massively photoshopped to the best of my ability coz the quality of the photos were horrible! must be the poor lighting aikz]

takeaway~

wow so I am a gourmet then! teehee

yalah everyday know how to eat only lah :P

And below are the cupcakes! For better pics and more variety, you shld refer to the links I provided earlier okie. Their photos are just so much nicer!

Anyhow, I'm still very satisfied with the photo below becoz I managed to present them nicely - despite the original lousy quality.

left: baked banana cheese cupcake with white chocolate curls

right: cheese and raspberry brownie cupcake with chocolate curls

Don't they sound absolutely delicious? Well to be honest, they tasted pretty good, but not as delicious as described though. Probably would have chosen other choices but then only a few left after 9pm. =/

Maybe I'll be luckier next time hehe. *eyes the rocky road and the one with peanut butter frosting ooo lala*

PS: Christmas is over. Well, it doesn't really mean anything special to me except that I get holidays! I don't mind that though! :P Last time when I was a little child, I used to wake up in anticipation of presents - yeah mr. santa claus aka dad left them in our pillow cases. (guess we must be pretty greedy to use that instead of stockings, huh? lol.)

I Am A Donut Lover!

Recently, the subset of the local blogosphere who loves pimping food has been in an uproar over this new doughnut shop that just opened in Pavillion not long ago.

How can moi be an exception when it comes to great food, right RIGHT? hehe.

somehow the Winnie the Pooh matches the box very well... kawaii ne~!

btw do take notice of my photoshopping of the photos ah. nice onot?

Anyway, the shop is called J.Co (ring any bells?) and it's an Indonesia brand. Apparently, it gets a lot of flake because some people think that it copied a lot from the more famous brand, Krispy Kremes. And weirdly, J.Co's logo and flavours do seemed very similar to another brand called Big Apple in Malaysia.

Sharing is caring! =)

this is the real colour of the box, dunno why the colour so different in the other photos? huhu.

Well from my background story above, you can see that I've been doing my "google" homework for this post huh. =P

But anyhow, I haven't tried the other two brands before so I have none for comparison. So you can say I'm a newbie unless you wanna count the hard choc donuts where you can get 4 for RM2 in Carrefour. hmm I think not.

Okay whatever. Who cares as long as the doughnuts taste good???

Time to open to see the goodies inside...

*drum roll*

omg it looks so yummylicious! *drools*

I really enjoyed eating all the different flavours. And their promotion of RM33 for 2 dozen donuts instead of the usual price of RM48 is damn worth-it! I want more..!

There were a few flavours that weren't available that time. I want to try the cheese me up and green tea wan! Next time ya... hehe.

Okay time to intro the flavours that I do have...

the one unlabelled is becoz I don't know & can't find out its name - anyone care to tell me?

My favourite in this photo is the choco loco and jacky chunk! omg the chocaletey goodness in the top and filling of choco loco is just wonderful. And lurve the nutty feel when I ate jacky chunk!

I think the why nut must be very nice. Unforuntely I kinda ruined it coz I put it in the microwave on too high temperature to reheat it. It was my first experiment. It came out more like biscuit tho oops. Anyway I'll definitely buy this the next time I go coz there's a peanut butter filling inside! ooohh!

Snow white and crunchy2 were so-so only. Especially becoz the flakes on crunchy2 had already turned soft coz we put it in the fridge ma.. snow white was okla coz when the sugar and icing melts in your mouth, it leaves a cooling feeling, which is not bad!

Right, time to intro the rest..

oops taken at weird angle coz I was just in too much of a hurry to eat it! lol

My favourite here is strawberry heaven and oreology. The filling for the former is just so nice!! I'm not really a strawberry fan (normally I'd prefer choc) but this toally converted me! woo. And anything with oreo is always nice imo LOL.

Glazzy is supposed to be super soft like cotton candy when you bite into it according to some but it wasn't so probably because it was cold and reheated so it's different I guess. Next time must eat straightaway from the oven, piping hot! >.<

Mochabella and alcapone is not bad but I'd prefer more white choc on the latter. They gave me too little and all I tasted was mostly the almond flakes.. weird. And these 2 are supposed to be their bestseller. *looks at own tastebuds but can't reach -_-*

Anyway, the one I don't really fancy is tira miss you. I think that's because I don't like the flavour from the beginning so yeah, not it's fault.

So in conclusion, the J.CO's donuts rawrs! I'm so going there to buy more in the near future! hehe..

--------------------------------------------------------

Oh ya, were you wondering why did I suddenly go to buy these donuts so far away from my home?

Well, the thing is, I didn't.

These donuts were totally a surprise from my dear dear!! ^v^ He purposely went all the way there, lined up for almost half an hour just to get the donuts then rushed back to uni just in time for class (all just because I pointed out to him a few days ago, saying that the donuts looked very nice on some blog!)

I feel touched and loved. =)

Isn't it sooo sweet of him? Plus he bought one box for my frenz too!

Thank you for the surprise, dear. It's totally the thought and the effort that counts. Although the donuts are very delicious too hehehe...

The Art of Art

Boo! I'm back!

Gomen for the slight-unplanned-hiatus. Been kinda busy and the post that is in progress is in need of a few photos that I'm still waiting for.

Anyway, here's a distraction. A post to showcase the drawings done by my bf for my uni's art competition (last year and this year).

Behold:-

Reflection

A mother reflecting back on the birth of her firstborn.

I think it's very touching oh! hehe. Anyway, he got first place last year for this drawing.. I think it has a lot to do abt how meaningful the drawing was.. =)

And this is this year's art piece:

Medicine: His-Story

Given the title of History of Medicine (thus leading to the art piece's aptly-title, don't you think so? it was my idea hehe), this art piece showcases the different facets of medicine. Various cultures are depicted here - Egyptian, Greek, Chinese and modern medicine.

This art competition is an international one so the prizes are pretty tempting! rm2500 for first prize leh! o.O and rm500 for consolation!

Anyway, I think this drawing is pretty detailed and the content fits the title given. I saw the other participants' pieces yesterday and I must say, I'm impressed. The art pieces submitted were really good! although some kinda don't really fit the title though. Creative license eh?

Oh.. I think I've runned out of things to ramble about. Did I manage to distract you? hehe..

Well I wish I could draw like that... *sigh* Nevermind, at least I think I'm good when it comes to words and ideas! *hint hint* keke...

Homegrown

My frens would probably remember me saying how much I miss my mum's cooking and how I wish I was as half as a good cook as she is.

Well, here are some of her dishes in full glory. ooo so yummy!

(paiseh my camera phone isn't capable of doing justice to the food that she cooks -_- hope that my photoshop skills can help a bit...)

First up is...

Can't believe it leh, that my mum also know how to make Loh Bak. :P She really has talent as a cook, most of the new food she tries to make will turn out successful eh! geng.

Anyway, this Loh Bak can rival those served by Little Penang Cafe. At least you know for sure that my mum uses real ingredients! hehe.

Second dish up is...

This dish is really good! The fish used is sting ray actually if you didn't know what sort of fish they used in your curry. One doesn't get to eat sting ray too often outside as it's expensive. hehe.

Anyway, I lurve the sourness given out by the tomatoes mixed with the spiciness of the dish keke. oh ya I really like tomatoes in my food, if cooked correctly of coz.

Next up is...

yes my mum knows how to make Bak Kut Teh too! hehe. Of coz the best I've ever tasted was a famous shop in KL [my uncle brought me there and sorry I think I haven't tasted the so-called best in Klang yet] but then the Bak Kut Teh my mum makes is pretty good too...

And you guys normally know that dishes with that chinesy herbal smell really gross me out. o.O Somehow I do enjoy eating Bak Kut Teh tho. hehe.

Last but not least is...

Yes Lam Mee the penang way!! How I miss this when I was in KL, they just don't have this tasty noodle in their hawker stalls.

This soup is cooked with pork and lots of prawn, giving it a sweet taste. Then the eggs are fried in a way so that they are in very thin sheets, giving a new sort of texture. Add the egg and noodle in the soup and voila, you have a delicacy!

This is my absolute favourite out of the four dishes above - and mind you, I am just simply picking four dishes that I have photos off - my mum's range of delicious dishes is so much more than that...

oh my these photos of food are getting my tummy in a rumble... huhu.

Alright, ciao for now!

PS: I'm going back to KL tomorrow morning - yes hols are coming to an end *boohoo* and weirdly, for once I don't feel exactly exhilarated by that. Hmm.. weird. oh well, whatever.

Turning The Big Two-O

Yup, finally time to reveal my long-awaited bday post! I can't believe this! I'm no longer a pimply-faced teenager and officially a kick-ass-must-be-responsible-adult! 20 20 20. Woo!

[Be prepared, I've a feeling this is gonna be one long-ass post. haha.]

Anyway, my bday celebrations actually started one hour earlier than the official chime of midnight of September 14th. And we're just getting back from the basketball match between sem1 and us.

And I was walking back to the lobby from the carpark when I got the surprise of my life! All of my frenz were so sweet to surprise me with a bday cake and bday songs - in the lobby no less!! omigosh. I really didn't expect ppl to surprise me in the lobby. Imagine how sweaty they got waiting for me there.

Surprising me with a birthday cake!

I really appreciate that, peeps. =D And boy, you guys are creative when it comes to surprises. lol. After that we went to Kee's house where they distribute the bday cake (choc banana if I'm not mistaken) and took photos etc. Some Ps2-ed, some talk crapped, you know the drill lah.. haha. Thanks for the surprise ya, guys! I enjoyed it very much. teehee >.<

Right, in case you're bored out of your mind, let me show you one of my prezzies from my girlfriends first okie. (btw pls notice if my photoshopping skills have become better?)

ooolala, what could be inside?

Voila! A lovely necklace but that's not all...

It has my name on it!!

erm I photoshopped that part in (so you can have a brief idea) coz my phone's camera macromode ain't too good.

And there is a "friends forever" etched behind. Aww. I'll really treasure this. =) I've never had jewellery with my name before or even a friendship necklace. Thanks, Puifun, Suewen, Liyann and Valene!! Hontoni love it~!

And check this out... a flower hairpin that Li Yann gave me coz she went pasar malam the night before.

Isn't it pretty? Orchids are lovely...

Okay, not so bored ade right? Time to continue with the story then. hehe. On the real day of my bday, I had PBL and classes. =( haha no lah, anyway we had already decided to go out after my bf's volleyball's match.

Well, PBL was kinda funny coz they kept trying to use my bday as an excuse to take a photo with the lengchai fasci. shhh lol.

Anyway, it was quite late by the time we reached Midvalley. And so to Chili's we went to have a sumptous feast. We ordered the bottomless drinks and bottomless chips. Yummy. And the Fish and Chips totally kicks ass!

Come come, salivate at these pics.

This is the best that I've ever had, seriously. The meat inside is just so crispy and when you bite, the juice just fills your mouth with its taste. And the chips are just the right texture and right amout of saltiness. Hontoni delicious!

Next up is dessert... *licks lips*

It does live up to its name. It really is an orgasmic delight!! An enormous slice of cake topped with ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramel and don't forget the oreos pieces at the bottom. Doesn't that description make you hungry now? haha. My absolute fav dessert from now on! =)

After that really satisfying meal, we went to watch the musical-cum-movie called Hairspray.

The poster for the movie. Isn't it colourful?

The singing was beautiful. You know how much I like musicals. But then the one thing abt this movie is that it's too much of a musical than a movie. I think there was only an interval of 2-3 mins between each song. That was how much singing it was composed of. It wasn't that the songs weren't nice, they were just too beautifully forgettable. haha..

Anyhow, gotta say the dancing and plot is not bad. I tot it was really hilarious. Talking abt discrimination of ppl who are different. Tell you what, peeps who like a taste of the different shld check this movie out.

So after the movie which ended rather late, it was time to go home. But my bday post can't end without me showing you guys the prezzie I got from my dear dear. =)

Tada~!

This was how he presented it to me. Don't you guys think it's prettily done?

So nice of him to paste a lovely bday card on top of the box.

Do you wanna know what's inside? *wondering*

Voila! A matching pair of earrings and necklace that he chose himself.

The earrings are heart-shaped while the necklace's pendant is a butterfly.

ooo so shimmery. I love it! *hearts*

And so that was the story of how I spent my twentieth birthday. Had a really great time! Thanks to my all my frenz and especially my dear dear. ^v^
