I first saw the lyrics of this song in Crz's blog and the lyrics somehow struck me... and poignant as it was, it remained in my mind till now. I haven't heard the song yet (download taking a looong time) but no matter, the lyrics somehow ring true.

Don't you notice how we act differently towards different people?

To some, we are more carefree and light-hearted. To others, we are more serious and we close our hearts to them by giving a blank unreadable face. In this world of deceit and treachery, it is safer to hide ourselves beneath a facade of apparent happiness, isn't it?

We act the role people assume us to be so well sometimes that we even trick ourselves that that is who we are.

Sometimes just sometimes, we are a tiny bit uncautious, we let a glimpse of the real us peek out. And instantly, it is frowned upon by others. I ask you, what's a girl gotta do?

Suddenly, I'm enlightened to the advantages of being a deaf and mute recluse. Dealing with people and making everyone satisfied is the hardest thing one can do and still remain true to oneself.

Anyhow, all this musing reminds me of a poem we read once in secondary school. Somehow I am able to appreciate it more now.

Typically Asian

Yeap, the next exploration in the culinary world is a typical meal you will see everywhere in Asia. We Asians like to have it when we are sick... as it's easier on your GI tract.

Feast your eyes (yes a pun!) on...

The more fluid version of rice

This meal is not too hard but it took the bf and moi quite a long time to cook this up so to speak... coz we cudn't estimate how long it took to boil the chicken.

Anyway, when we finally managed to boil the chicken drumsticks [I didn't know that chicken had so much oil essence in it! it looked like oily chicken soup!], then we waited for it to cool before shredding it. After that, it was only a matter of adding the shreds of chicken meat into the porridge just before it's done.

We also boiled some salted eggs (coz I like it with my porridge!) and a steamed egg dish. but no photos of that sorry coz it's unphotogenic... *muahaha*

Well I'll only post photos of that when we have mastered the dish... it's normal to have mishaps now and then. :P Can't expect for us amateur cooks to be successful all the time, right? keke.

Anyway, we added the last of the nuts I brought with me from penang and some pepper - and voila! - we have a nice steaming meal of porridge!

*licks lips* yay tasty.

You Are The "Kee" To Our Hearts

That was what that was written on the birthday cake. Isn't it sweet? ^v^

yeap you guessed right! One of the last outings b4 the Raya break was to celebrate Kee's 21st birthday slightly early becoz his real one is sadly, during the Hari Raya break where everyone would be going home. Well I'm sad that I can't share the joy on the real day itself but an earlier celebration is the best alternative!

If you remember - I mentioned in this previous post that my friends were so funny to decide to surprise me in the carpark lobby near the lifts, I decided to give my dear dear the surprise of his life. (I alwix think that 21st birthdays shld be celebrated grandly *hint hint hehe*)

Therefore, mischievious moi decided to ask all his friends to hide in his bedroom with the cake and surprise him when he opens the door!! He would never discover it beforehand! keke. And there would be no anti-climax surprises that occured with mine. My friends accidentally surprised a malay couple that was walking silently in front of me LOL. I must admit I was surprised too, but then the effect of a bunch of ppl jumping right in your face and several metres in front of you is different. haha.

Oops digressed.

Anyway, the plan worked perfectly. I must admit, I was in a fluster, hurrying the rest of the people to the house after class while me and Tzen would work our Art of Delaying on Kee. haha. I must say, my plan of getting slides, returning and borrowing a book worked perfectly. So much so that they were sweating profusely in his room haha coz they can't on the fan when the candles are alight. poor things.

So I messaged them, warning of our eminent arrival so that they could prepare. I was so prepared that I even gave Leong the lighter a night before. Which turned out to be a blunder when Leong put it on the sofa, which naturally lead to a question of why is it there by Kee. Thankfully, that week he was kinda blur so he didn't ask more. :P

But all the preparation in the world couldn't prepare me for the last challenge. For once, he didn't go into his room but remained in the living room. I was for once at a loss of ideas to bluff him to go into his room. Luckily Tzen came up with the idea of borrowing his book. Kee was at first reluctant to bring the book out now (and it is weird to demand a book there and then saying he need it NOW especially when he was playing ps2 summore lol) but thk god Kee gave in and went to get the book in the end.

And so the surprise went as planned! ^v^ I was so happy that it turned out perfectly. There are so many factors that come into play when it comes to surprising ppl eh.. gotta work more on that.

And lucky me, I get the girly half of the keychain even tho it isn't my birthday! hehehe...

Ohh.. you didn't think the celebrations ended just there, did you? Anyway, we went to Midvalley to have a nice dinner and watch a movie lo. After much discussion, we somehow ended up at Oh Sushi for dinner.

I think the decor there is absolutely fabulous! See see!

Unfortunately, I can't say much of the food. Compared to other japanese sushi restaurants, this one was hontoni expensive! And the bento sets weren't much to boast abt either. Only the California Roll plus other small sushi taste not bad. oh well, guess I still like Sakae Sushi the best. yummy bento sets there!

Anyway, we talked crap so much that we were almost late for the movie. We wanted to watch Resident Evil at first - and yes this time we did book tickets - however not all of the crowd wanted to watch it so in the end, we switched to The Bourne Ultimatum.

You know what, this movie is a must watch! Very cool and intelligent sort of movie. And full of action too! It's amazing to watch how Bourne keeps pulling the stops on the evil police organization that's gone on a killing spree. Justice prevails! Btw, I think he's more real that James Bond and all that suave crap. so put this movie in your choice of must-watchs okay! hehe.

Well my post can't finish without showcasing the rest of the prezzies he got.

He will be able to match it with his formal shirts! keke. hope he likes it! =)

Well, that was how we celebrated Kee's birthday lo..

Nothing exactly extravagant but pretty memorable too. I hope he enjoys it as much we did. ^v^

Boo! I'm back!

Gomen for the slight-unplanned-hiatus. Been kinda busy and the post that is in progress is in need of a few photos that I'm still waiting for.

Medicine: His-Story

Given the title of History of Medicine (thus leading to the art piece's aptly-title, don't you think so? it was my idea hehe), this art piece showcases the different facets of medicine. Various cultures are depicted here - Egyptian, Greek, Chinese and modern medicine.

This art competition is an international one so the prizes are pretty tempting! rm2500 for first prize leh! o.O and rm500 for consolation!

Anyway, I think this drawing is pretty detailed and the content fits the title given. I saw the other participants' pieces yesterday and I must say, I'm impressed. The art pieces submitted were really good! although some kinda don't really fit the title though. Creative license eh?

Oh.. I think I've runned out of things to ramble about. Did I manage to distract you? hehe..

Well I wish I could draw like that... *sigh* Nevermind, at least I think I'm good when it comes to words and ideas! *hint hint* keke...

Homegrown

My frens would probably remember me saying how much I miss my mum's cooking and how I wish I was as half as a good cook as she is.

Well, here are some of her dishes in full glory. ooo so yummy!

(paiseh my camera phone isn't capable of doing justice to the food that she cooks -_- hope that my photoshop skills can help a bit...)

First up is...

Can't believe it leh, that my mum also know how to make Loh Bak. :P She really has talent as a cook, most of the new food she tries to make will turn out successful eh! geng.

Anyway, this Loh Bak can rival those served by Little Penang Cafe. At least you know for sure that my mum uses real ingredients! hehe.

Second dish up is...


This dish is really good! The fish used is sting ray actually if you didn't know what sort of fish they used in your curry. One doesn't get to eat sting ray too often outside as it's expensive. hehe.

Anyway, I lurve the sourness given out by the tomatoes mixed with the spiciness of the dish keke. oh ya I really like tomatoes in my food, if cooked correctly of coz.

Next up is...


yes my mum knows how to make Bak Kut Teh too! hehe. Of coz the best I've ever tasted was a famous shop in KL [my uncle brought me there and sorry I think I haven't tasted the so-called best in Klang yet] but then the Bak Kut Teh my mum makes is pretty good too...

And you guys normally know that dishes with that chinesy herbal smell really gross me out. o.O Somehow I do enjoy eating Bak Kut Teh tho. hehe.

Last but not least is...


Yes Lam Mee the penang way!! How I miss this when I was in KL, they just don't have this tasty noodle in their hawker stalls.

This soup is cooked with pork and lots of prawn, giving it a sweet taste. Then the eggs are fried in a way so that they are in very thin sheets, giving a new sort of texture. Add the egg and noodle in the soup and voila, you have a delicacy!

This is my absolute favourite out of the four dishes above - and mind you, I am just simply picking four dishes that I have photos off - my mum's range of delicious dishes is so much more than that...

oh my these photos of food are getting my tummy in a rumble... huhu.

PS: I'm going back to KL tomorrow morning - yes hols are coming to an end *boohoo* and weirdly, for once I don't feel exactly exhilarated by that. Hmm.. weird. oh well, whatever.

Cooking A Mamak Staple

Ahoy there! This is another culinary adventure with the bf.. haha! Guess what we try to make this time?

*hints available in post's title hehe*

Yeap, we made Maggi goreng! We weren't very free that day so we decided on something that was simple yet delicious!

You don't believe it's rather simple? Then let me tell you how it's done then.

-----------------------------------------------

First, boil the noodles till they are cooked. Sieved out the water and leave it in a plate. Cut the tomatoes and pluck the cabbage into tiny pieces. If possible, try to get the green vege (I dunno what is its name and I forgot to buy that day) as it tastes not bad with the noodles. Oh ya, don't forget to cut the sausages into small slices too.

Right, then you are ready to do frying! Heat up the pan and put in moderate amounts of cooking oil. Put in the noodles first and add the seasonning that comes with it. [Believe me, it tastes very nice in fried noodles too!] Add some soya sauce/pepper if the taste is not enough.

Then add in the sausage slices and the cabbage. When the noodles are almost done, add in the tomato slices last for a few quick fries. Then you are done!

Isn't it easy? try it out sometime! =)

.: Outings :.

Repro has just started for two weeks and guess what? It's not as interesting as I thought it would be, despite the squirms and giggles that would abound when certain disorders/diseases of the male/female repro are discussed in the lecture hall.

Anyway, we have been going out relatively a lot recently. Movie outings, eating outings, karaoke outings, shopping outings - you name it, we have it. haha.

The last karaoke outing was on the friday afternoon after endocrine exam in Greenbox, with the extra aim of celebrating ZherLin's birthday.

We also went to this cool place two tuesdays back called Restaurant Telipon which is a buffet-steamboat-cum-grill restaurant!! *licks lips* This was to co-celebrate ChengLing and Eugene's birthday! Wow, so many september and october babies! hehe.

No need to say lah, we really had our fill that night. I especially lurve the grilled food! yummy!! Actually, I prefer grill buffet than steamboat lo... teehee >.<

I didn't know that grilled bak gua (forgot what's called in english) can be so tasty! love it. And the normal grilled food would be sausages, ham and what not. haha.

Btw, look what Kee did besides the usual grilling and eating. :P

Stacking mushrooms on top of each other! it looks pretty cute tho! hehe

And I became a light bulb when I went shopping with Li Shan and Tzen in Midvalley two sundays back. haha. As long as they don't mind it's okay lo. keke. yay got raya sale, but some of the clothes were just still too expensive for us. lol. Luckily I managed to find the gift that I wanted (altho it was abit expensive!) so yeah, all is good. hehe.

And we ended the tiring shopping day with a movie - I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. We're joined by Kee who was kind enough to fetch us home later.

Anyway I must say, this movie is entirely hilarious!! A must watch. It's rated 18-above and I can see why. lol.

Sadly some of the scenes were censored teehee >.< but on the overall, this movie really tickled my funny bone. And as usual, it touched on issues on friendship, homosexuality, being true to yourself etc. Go watch it if you haven't watch it yet! keke...

Then last last friday, I was feeling rather sien and definitely not in the mood for study so off we went to watch some movie. The bf was aiming for Resident Evil: Extinction but unfortunately both 2 time slots were packed. oh well, next time I guess.

In the end, we settled for The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising. I would say it was so-so only lah, but not exactly spectacular.

Trying to cash in on the Harry Potter success?

The part where the security guards started changing into monsters was the most thrilling part of the whole movie coz we didn't know whether it was happening for real or was it the boy's hallucination (typically so in a House episode haha). Unfortunately the part was at the near front, and it took a gradual nosedive from there on. The worst was the ending which was kinda lame and anti-climax. oh well.. good movies are hard to come by nowadays.

Anyway, I seemed to be addicted to shopping recently so I persuaded my dear dear to go with me to SgWang last weekend. And after a few hours of browsing and looking for the right thing, I finally bought a peach-coloured top that is the longish type and an eyeshadow applier. Oops I seem to be abit addicted to the newly-learnt art of makeup too. haha.

Anyway dinner was at one of our favourite restaurants - Kim Gary.

And this is what I had.



I chose the set as it was more worth-it. And I really love it! So yummy. Kim Gary's cheese-baked rice is still the best altho I'd tried quite a few of those HK fusion food restaurants.

And he had this.

Yesh, I know it was dinner time but then it was still available so why not? It tasted not bad too..

Wow, looking at pictures of food is making me tummy grumble haha. And yeah I'm finally back in Penang for the raya hols! One week! call me out peeps! And before I forget, Happy Hari Raya to my muslim friends and readers out there! =)

Anyway, this update is kinda late so there would definitely be another post on the latest outing hehe. yesh it was for the early celebration of a certain someone's birthday. Watch this space!

  1. You have ever said "Netter is god" - nah I didn't say that, but gotta admit it's a good book.
  2. You can discuss autopsy/ anatomy over a meal - sure why not!
  3. You own a 4 color pen - nope, but I have 5 different coloured highlighters, does that count?
  4. It just isn't enough colors for you - err okla enough ade..
  5. You use more than one color to take notes - well sometimes, but mostly use the same pen coz where got time to change pen when the lecturer's mumbling at the speed of light?
  6. You have use up more than 6 highlighters in the past 6 months - okay not so geng yet..
  7. You have even highlighted something YOU wrote - guilty as charged!
  8. You retype handouts given in class - haha I where got patience to do that.
  9. You haven't had a date in 3 months - thankfully I can answer negative for this one.

Bad Day

It has been an absolutely horrible day. For many reasons.

There was the person who was rude to me altho I felt I was right and didn't deserve it.

There was the person who thought I wasn't right although the stuff was rightfully mine to begin with.

There was the person who tried to make fun of me and I had to shrug it off smillingly - coz there was no way to get off without being labelled touchy.

There was the person who bluntly told me he didn't appreciate what I had done for him althought the event took so much effort to plan.

There was the rain that started just after class and I didn't have an unbrella with me.

There was the rain that got so much heavier after I decided to wait a little while to see if it would abate.

There was the careless stupid fall that caused me to hurt myself in the right ribcage - I've a rather high threshold of pain and I hvta say, this is painful.

There was me, who just couldn't stop myself from pouring out streamless complaints to my friend.

And there is just so much more, feelings best left unsaid.

Sometimes, I am just human - I need that pat on the back telling me, yes it will be okay.

I think I shall go listen to Daniel Powter's Bad Day. Maybe it will make me feel a lil better.

This Is For You

I've been putting this post off - coz maybe in a way I wanna put off the pain that I'm sure would come rushing to overwhelm me once I start reminizing.

This post is in loving memory of you.

News of your death came to me in the form of a sms at an odd hour, and many many days after the real event. Coz none saw fit to tell me the news when it happened. I wonder why.

It was a sudden shock to me, coz the latest news I had of you was that you were just waiting for the operation so that you can get better to come back and teach. No one told me what the operation was for, so I assumed it was just a minor one. Something that would not get you down.

You seemed perfectly healthy to me the last time I saw you. Little did I know it would be the last chance I'd ever lay eyes on you. If I'd known, I'd have appreciate that little time left a little more.

I have known you since I was just a little kid of nine. You might not be a family member, but to me, you seemed more real to me than my actual grandfather was to me. You were not just a teacher, you were a wise friend that was willing to listen to the rants of a troubled teenage girl.

You not only gave me a listening ear, you also gave me sound advice. Advice that might sound weird then, but thinking back now, made a lot of sense. You were also a great storyteller, often entralling me with stories of your past encounters. Till today, I remember them well and wonder how much of those were true. haha. How I miss those happy innocent times.

If not for you, I might not be where I am today. I might have become a rather lousy student, a rebel without a reason. *think of those good-for-nothing kids that end up in jail becoz of some small crime* I wouldn't be able to do medicine today. But I can stand proudly here now, because you were there.

I told you most of my thoughts - how I would never like a guy (hey it was just one of those youngish misnomers), my theories on death and the universe, how unjustly I felt that my parents were treating me (ravages of puberty I reckoned) etc - it was really almost everything. Truth to be told, I opened up to you more than I could ever do to my own parents.

Do you remember I asked you once a long time ago to come back from the dead (if there was such an existence of coz) and tell me how it's like there? So that I won't be afraid of the unknown anymore. But you never came. Did you forget our promise or is there no such thing as life after death? I wish you would appear in any form to tell me you are well and happy now...

Now, the tears don't come anymore (not like those that came when I first heard of the news) coz in a way I've already gotten used to life without you. I saw lesser and lesser of you once I went to college. And even less so when I went to KL to study. But somewhere in the depths of my heart - although how naive a thought that could be - I always thought that you will be there for me if I might suddenly need you to listen again.

But you are gone now, to a better place where you will never be sad again. But I feel cheated coz I did not know of this impending event. I feel sad that I wasn't in time to tell you about the new special someone in my life. So at least you will know that you were right after all. I wish you knew how many things I'd like to tell you now about my current life, if I was allowed some private alone time with you. A priviledge I no longer possess.

Anyhow, I think you have led a fulfilling happy life and I'm glad. Although there might be some sad spots in your life, you were able to overcome them with determination and courage. Something that I will take to heart.

Rest in peace, Mr Chin. *soft sigh* I loved you and thank you for everything. =)

Turning The Big Two-O

Yup, finally time to reveal my long-awaited bday post! I can't believe this! I'm no longer a pimply-faced teenager and officially a kick-ass-must-be-responsible-adult! 20 20 20. Woo!

[Be prepared, I've a feeling this is gonna be one long-ass post. haha.]

Anyway, my bday celebrations actually started one hour earlier than the official chime of midnight of September 14th. And we're just getting back from the basketball match between sem1 and us.

And I was walking back to the lobby from the carpark when I got the surprise of my life! All of my frenz were so sweet to surprise me with a bday cake and bday songs - in the lobby no less!! omigosh. I really didn't expect ppl to surprise me in the lobby. Imagine how sweaty they got waiting for me there.

I really appreciate that, peeps. =D And boy, you guys are creative when it comes to surprises. lol. After that we went to Kee's house where they distribute the bday cake (choc banana if I'm not mistaken) and took photos etc. Some Ps2-ed, some talk crapped, you know the drill lah.. haha. Thanks for the surprise ya, guys! I enjoyed it very much. teehee >.<

erm I photoshopped that part in (so you can have a brief idea) coz my phone's camera macromode ain't too good.

And there is a "friends forever" etched behind. Aww. I'll really treasure this. =) I've never had jewellery with my name before or even a friendship necklace. Thanks, Puifun, Suewen, Liyann and Valene!! Hontoni love it~!

Okay, not so bored ade right? Time to continue with the story then. hehe. On the real day of my bday, I had PBL and classes. =( haha no lah, anyway we had already decided to go out after my bf's volleyball's match.

Well, PBL was kinda funny coz they kept trying to use my bday as an excuse to take a photo with the lengchai fasci. shhh lol.

Anyway, it was quite late by the time we reached Midvalley. And so to Chili's we went to have a sumptous feast. We ordered the bottomless drinks and bottomless chips. Yummy. And the Fish and Chips totally kicks ass!

This is the best that I've ever had, seriously. The meat inside is just so crispy and when you bite, the juice just fills your mouth with its taste. And the chips are just the right texture and right amout of saltiness. Hontoni delicious!

Next up is dessert... *licks lips*


It does live up to its name. It really is an orgasmic delight!! An enormous slice of cake topped with ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramel and don't forget the oreos pieces at the bottom. Doesn't that description make you hungry now? haha. My absolute fav dessert from now on! =)

After that really satisfying meal, we went to watch the musical-cum-movie called Hairspray.

The singing was beautiful. You know how much I like musicals. But then the one thing abt this movie is that it's too much of a musical than a movie. I think there was only an interval of 2-3 mins between each song. That was how much singing it was composed of. It wasn't that the songs weren't nice, they were just too beautifully forgettable. haha..

Anyhow, gotta say the dancing and plot is not bad. I tot it was really hilarious. Talking abt discrimination of ppl who are different. Tell you what, peeps who like a taste of the different shld check this movie out.

So after the movie which ended rather late, it was time to go home. But my bday post can't end without me showing you guys the prezzie I got from my dear dear. =)

Cheering For Cheerleading

yes you noticed the humorous irony in this post's title, right? :P

Anyway, for my readers who weren't there during the cheerleading competition last week, well you are in luck! I've found these videos in YouTube and have put them up here so you can watch for yourself!

Pharm A -Elektra


They were pretty good. I think they deserved some sort of placing too. I think most of them were part of the previous team of champions. Lurve their silver and purple uniforms!



Pharm B - Spartans

They were superb. I think they deserved the first place imho. They got 3rd place btw. The opening part is chun!! You'll get to see what I meant abt the human circles thingy I mentioned in a past post.


M106 - Venus

Yay! my batch's performance was superb and we got second place by just a tiny 0.1 mark difference. And we lost 5 marks coz we're over the time limit by a mere 30 seconds! Sucha pity don't you think?

Anyway, from the video, my batch might not be the most synchronized of all but you can't help but notice that there's a FUN vibe in our cheerleading! You feel lighthearted by watching their performance! Btw pls do notice the props especially the banners coz Kee and Keeping made them and I helped! hehe. >.<

M106 peeps always have fun no matter what! Cool~!
